Before we get into this month's newsletter topic, just a quick note. We're in the "dog days of summer", a time when things slow down due to the heat. While things are a bit slower, it's a perfect time to add to your leadership and business skills. Check our some of our courses and tools listed at the end of the newsletter, especially our newest course on "situational leadership". What Are You Unconsciously Teaching Your Team?
Recently I was speaking with a direct selling leader about her business. She was sharing with me some of the struggles she was having professionally. As I listened to her describe her situation, I could see that she was "stuck" in focusing on what was "wrong" in her life rather than focusing on what was "right". And not only was she locked in on what was wrong with her personal situation, she also could only see what was not working with her team.
I asked her to examine the words she was using to describe her business and her team and to see what impact she thought these words might be having on perpetuating the downturn. She was familiar with the Law of Attraction. Because of this, she knew her thoughts and words were contributing to the situation, but she felt powerless to stop it. "How do I stop all these negative thoughts about my business that are running through my head?" she asked me. "It's simple!" I replied. "Tell me all the things that are working well for you right now."
|
After pondering for a few seconds, she started listing the areas of her life that were going well (relationships with her children, parents, friends and her team, long-term customers, great products, a beautiful home and neighborhood, her health, etc.). While voicing these positives in her life, her tone grew lighter and her energy soared.
As we continued to talk, she began to see that shifting her focus to all the positives in her life was the answer to getting rid of the negative. In addition, she realized changing her focus to what her team was doing well and letting them know these things would quickly improve results.
So here's the key: when your mind is occupied with gratitude, there's no room for negative thoughts. Shift to positive thoughts by making it a daily practice to appreciate all the things in your life. Appreciate your environment, your health, your home and car, your loved ones, your business, your customers, having ample food to eat, a beautiful sunrise or sunset, clean air and water, and anything else that comes to mind. Where are things working well for you? Feel the positive energy in these areas flowing into all areas of your life. Begin to look for any small signs that constructive changes are happening. Make it a habit to constantly give thanks and guide your team to do the same. Every time you say "Thank you", you release positive energy that invites more things for which to be grateful!
To an ever expanding gratitude list!!
