Do You Have This Important Success Factor?
One of the most important success contributors or detractors in a home based business is the working environment. When I begin coaching a new client that has a home based business, one of the first things I ask them is to tell me about their home office. I ask them what they see when they enter their office space each day. The responses I hear most of the time go like this: "I see a desk covered with piles of paper, correspondence that needs to be filed, stacks of product in the corner, unanswered messages and clutter everywhere!" Next, I ask them, "How does seeing these things make you feel?" "Terrible, tired, or exhausted!" are the most common answers. My next question to the client is: "How do you think feeling tired or exhausted impacts your business?" There's usually a long pause while they make the connection between a cluttered office and the lack of results in their business.
If your home office is not an inspiring, uplifting environment that makes you feel good every time you enter the space, then you are not going to be eager to "get to work" each day. If upon entering your office or work area, you feel an immediate drain of energy, then your business is going to suffer.

Take a moment right now. Stop and look around your work space. Is there something "hanging over you" or piled in front of you sapping your power? Is there an area or item that needs attention - something you've been meaning to do for a long-time? Maybe your energy drains revolve around clutter and unwanted items, incomplete tasks or outdated equipment. Or maybe your energy drains revolve around more emotional issues such as someone you've been meaning to call, something you've been avoiding, a commitment you now regret, or a goal that no longer inspires you. Notice what happens physically and mentally when you think about these unresolved items. It's the combination of your negative self talk about what needs to be done and the thing itself that depletes your energy.
Are you ready for an energy boast? Pick one significant item right now that you want to clear from your work space and commit to totally resolving it. You can do it yourself, ask for help, hire someone to do it, or schedule a block of time to tackle it. Once you've eliminated this energy drain, you will instantly feel enthused again as power flows back to you. Then take that shot of energy and put it back into your business!
Here's to your new energizing office!
